The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhilai, established in 2016, has made significant strides in the field of education. In a recent development, the institute achieved a remarkable milestone by securing a position in the top 100 in the Education Ministry's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in the engineering category for the first time. This accolade underlines the institution's dedication to academic excellence and its growing prominence within the educational landscape.
While this achievement in NIRF stands as a notable feat, IIT Bhilai did not receive a place in the prestigious rankings of Times Higher Education (THE) or the QS World University Rankings for the year 2024. Despite its notable success in the NIRF engineering category, the institute has faced challenges in gaining recognition in research or overall categories over the past five years.
According to the NIRF 2023 rankings, IIT Bhilai holds the 81st rank in the engineering category, with specific scores across various parameters. It scored 73.09 in teaching, learning, and resources (TRL) out of 100, 13.54 in research and professional practice (RPC), 65.54 in graduation outcomes (GO), 59.29 in outreach and inclusivity (OI), and 8.26 in perception.
Offering a range of academic programs, IIT Bhilai provides BTech, MTech, MSc, and PhD programs across various departments. Since its inception, the institute has expanded its academic offerings, currently providing six undergraduate programs in computer science and engineering (CSE), data science and artificial intelligence (DSAI), electrical engineering (EE), mechanical engineering (ME), materials science and metallurgical engineering (MSME), and mechatronics engineering (MT).
In addition to the undergraduate programs, the institute also offers MTech programs in diverse disciplines such as bioengineering, electric vehicle technology (EVT), CSE, DSAI, and thermal and fluids engineering (TFE), among others.
Despite the challenges faced in other rankings, IIT Bhilai's commitment to providing quality education and its diverse academic offerings across various disciplines stands as a testament to its dedication towards nurturing talent and fostering innovation in the field of engineering and technology.
